Fall 2026 Korea Admission Timeline for Foreign Students

Other languages:Tiếng Việt한국어

Last reviewed: 2026-05 Based on September 2026 admission

If it is May now, applicants for Korean universities or graduate schools must choose schools and prepare documents at the same time. The usual pattern is document preparation in May~June, applications in June~July, results in July~August, D-2 비자 (student visa for degree programs) in August, and entry to Korea in September. However, the exact deadline must be checked in each school’s 모집요강 (admission guideline).

May — Choose schools/majors + start the first document round

The goal in May is to narrow your list to 3~5 schools and begin 외국인 입학 서류 준비 (document preparation for international admission). 한국 대학 외국인 모집 일정 (Korean university international admission schedules) differ by school. Even inside one university, 학부 (undergraduate), 대학원 (graduate school), general graduate schools, and specialized graduate schools may follow different calendars.

Check each 모집요강 for language of instruction, TOPIK or IELTS/TOEFL requirements, scholarships, and financial standards. You can also search schools and majors through the Korean government’s official portal: Study in Korea.

Your May checklist should include passport copy, graduation certificate, transcript, language score, bank balance certificate, family documents, 자기소개서 (personal statement), 학업계획서 (study plan), and recommendation letters. Academic documents issued overseas may need apostille or consular confirmation.

💡
Translation, notarization, apostille, and consular confirmation often take more than a few days. Starting right before a June deadline can be too late.

June — Language score + final documents + school-by-school applications

June is the core period for September 2026 admission. Many schools receive applications for 가을학기 외국인 유학생 (fall semester international students) in June~July, but some close in late May or open additional rounds after July. The exact deadline must be checked in each school’s 모집요강.

At this stage, check language score validity, whether an expected graduation certificate is accepted, the issue-date rule for financial documents, and submission method. Some schools require online input, file upload, application fee payment, and postal submission; uploading online may not mean the application is complete.

Graduate applicants should review the study plan and 연구계획서 (research plan) carefully. For 2026 한국 대학원 9월 입학 (Fall 2026 Korean graduate school admission), some departments may require an interview, prior professor contact, a portfolio, or research records.

July~August — Results + visa application + entry preparation

July~August usually includes results, tuition payment, 표준입학허가서 (Standard Admission Letter), and D-2 비자 application. Many schools issue the 표준입학허가서 only after tuition payment and final document review.

Once the 표준입학허가서 is issued, start the 9월 학기 비자 (September semester visa) process immediately. Housing, dormitory, flights, and entry date should also be fixed early. A delayed visa can make it difficult to enter before classes begin.

학부 vs 대학원 — Differences in timeline and documents

For 학부, the main issues are nationality eligibility, high school graduation, language score, financial documents, and document completeness.

For 대학원, the schedule can be more dispersed. Study in Korea notes that graduate school deadlines vary by university and some graduate schools may operate rolling admissions. At graduate level, the research plan, academic fit, recommendation letters, interview, and professor contact can carry more weight.

D-2 비자 application process

According to Study in Korea’s student visa guidance, students who stay in Korea for regular programs at institutions above college level, or for academic research, need a 유학(D-2) visa. D-2 has subtypes for bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, and other programs: Student Visa and Stay.

The usual flow is admission, tuition payment or registration, receipt of 표준입학허가서, preparation of passport·photo·academic documents·financial documents, and D-2 application through a Korean diplomatic mission or relevant 출입국 (Immigration Office) procedure.

어학연수 D-4 (language training visa) is separate. A Korean language institute may also start a September term, but the deadline, documents, and stay status are different from a D-2 degree program.

💡
For visa applications and timing, checking with 출입국 or GEA admission counseling is recommended. Required documents can differ by country and consulate, so also review Hi Korea and the Korean consulate website for your country.

Frequently asked questions

Q. It is already May and I have not chosen a school. Is it too late?

Not necessarily. However, you should choose at least 3 schools this week and compare their 모집요강. Prioritize schools with late-June or July deadlines.

Q. Can I apply for September admission without TOPIK?

It depends on the school and department. Some schools may accept English scores, their own Korean test, conditional admission, or a Korean language requirement after admission.

Q. Can I apply for a D-2 visa immediately after acceptance?

In most cases, you need the 표준입학허가서. An acceptance notice alone may not be enough; many schools issue the letter only after tuition payment and final verification.

Q. What should I do first when the deadline is close?

First, check the application deadline, postal-arrival rule, language score rule, and financial document issue-date rule in the 모집요강. Then ask the international office whether any missing document can be replaced or submitted later.

For September 2026 admission, move in order: finalize schools and majors in May, submit documents and applications in June, and handle visa and entry preparation in July~August. The exact deadline must be checked in each school’s 모집요강, and visa timing should be checked with 출입국 or GEA admission counseling.
